What is Bisphenol A? Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used to make a hard plastic called polycarbonate (PC). PC is used in the manufacture of varying consumer products such as baby bottles, reusable food containers including water bottles, medical devices and sport safety equipment. Why is Polycarbonate (PC) used? The widespread use of PC is due to the exceptional combination of properties that the material gives, including safety, toughness, durability, lightweight, clarity, and suitability to all common household methods of sterilisation. It also acts as a barrier to bacterial contamination and is shatterproof. PC is used for the vast majority of the world's feeding bottles, and has been for over 40 years. What is the Government's Stance on BPA? The government has asked for a voluntary phasing out of BPA bottles. This is NOT a ban or recall. The government quotes the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) evaluation that concludes the “level of intake of BPA or plasticisers are very low and do not pose a risk to babies health”. However, the Australian government appreciates that there has been a level of public concern relating to BPA in baby bottles, and as such, has worked with major retailers to introduce the phase out. A voluntary phasing out of BPA bottles by major retailers – Coles, Kmart, Target, Woolworths, Big W and Aldi from July 1, 2010. Tommee Tippee position on PC bottles Our main focus at Tommee Tippee is to ensure that all products meet the relevant international regulatory industry guidelines and safety standards. Your child’s safety and good health is of paramount importance to us. Recognising the importance of providing safe, durable and reliable baby bottles Tommee Tippee has been working for some time on the phase out of PC bottles. The majority of our product range includes products that are BPA free such as the ‘Closer to Nature’ range. When purchasing Tommee Tippee bottles look for the BPA free symbol. The Apricot coloured BPA Free symbol indicates that Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature products are BPA free and the purple coloured BPA free symbol indicates that Tommee Tippee products are BPA Free.

While you've been introducing your little ones to the joys (and fears) of fireworks, we've been enjoying some sparklers of our own. In fact Tommee Tippee has chalked up six major awards in the last two weeks from two of the leading parenting magazines and with an additional one from the popular Babyworld online community, we hope you'll forgive us for shouting about our success. The Practical Parenting Awards held recently in the London Aquarium gave us two top awards. First, the Closer to Nature range won the Best Bottle and Teat category. And the weaning set as featured exclusively on our website took the Best Feeding Equipment award. Then last week we were guests at the Prima Baby Reader Awards in London where we notched up a whole raft of awards. First there was yet more praise for our revolutionary Closer to Nature range. The bottle and teat and the Microwave and cold water combi steriliser each won Best Value buys in recognition of their outstanding design at a great price. Then Tommee Tippee's fantastic cups range featuring the first cup, the Easiflow range and the Kids on the Go collection scooped a Double Winner award. 'They are cheerful and practical' said the judges 'with handles and spouts that never seem to wear out.' Completing the line-up was the Tommee Tippee weaning range which also won a Double Winner accolade. 'They look good, last well and make weaning so much easier,' said the citation. And to complete the line-up, www.babyworld.co.uk awarded the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature electronic steriliser its Best Buy award for its 'brilliant design, quality accessories and easy sterilisation'. Now we've all got our fingers crossed for the Mother and Baby Awards on November 29 when once again we've been shortlisted for Closer to Nature in the best feeding 0-6 months category. This is the category we won last year. Can we make it the double? Watch this space ... |

Tommee Tippee’s Closer to Nature range scooped the gold award in the prestigious Mother and Baby Awards which took place recently at the Hilton Hotel in London’s Park Lane. The award in the feeding 0 - 6 months category was presented by zany comedienne Ruby Wax to Joanna Elliott, Tommee Tippee’s Head of Marketing at the event, attended by more than 700 guests from the nursery industry. We’d like to thank not just the panel of Mother and Baby readers who tested the Closer to Nature bottles and breast pump and gave such positive feedback to the magazine, but all the mums and dads who have written to Tommee Tippee in praise of the range. |

“I love the new Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottle. I’m
breastfeeding as well as giving a bottle to my 10 week old baby. The teat
is so similar to the breast my baby wouldn’t know the difference
between the two. Very happy mum and bub!” “I would like to say thank you very much for a perfect product.
My baby has fussed and fussed with bottles, until I came across the closer
to nature range (because I am still breast feeding) it is perfect she
didn't even know the difference. I have even recommended your closer to
nature bottles to parents at my mothers childcare centre, once again thank
you thank you thank you.” “I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU! for designing this
range. As a second time Mum I worried about weaning my son as we
had terrible trouble weaning his older brother. My husband and I found
it extremely hard to feed Cooper expressed breast milk from ANY of our
existing bottles, we tried everything, about 100 different teats, different
sized bottles you name it we tried it - we even tried to feed him
from a cup!! - until I found your product. I bought a pack of 260ml bottles,
washed and sterilised them, put some expressed breast milk in and he didn't
even struggle, just closed his eyes and drank away! I couldn't believe
it worked 1st time! I have recommended your Closer to Nature range to
everyone I know!!! Thank you for making it easier for me to include
my partner in feed time, and also thank you for making it easier for our
precious babies to feel comfortable during feeds. Thanks so very much.”
“My wife has just been out and bought your new Closer to Nature
bottles, and our baby is loving it! I just wanted to let you know!”
